About the Coach
Terry L. Copacia, Director, All-State Quarterback School
Terry Copacia is the director and founder of the All-State Quarterback School. The All-State Quarterback School is one of the longest running national quarterback camps in the country with over 8,500 quarterbacks having attended over the past 19 years of operation. Coach Copacia has also worked privately with over 500 quarterbacks during the past 5 years. The All-State Quarterback School has conducted camps in Texas, Colorado, Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, North Carolina, and Illinois.
Coach Terry Copacia, a former high school and collegiate quarterback, has been coaching quarterbacks for 31 years. During 27 of those years, he has served as the Offensive Coordinator for Utica Eisenhower High School (MI). Coach Copacia is also the former Head Coach of Utica Ford High School (MI 95-97).
Coach Copacia has been instrumental in developing a long list of successful high school quarterbacks at both the high schools that he coached at, as well as hundreds of quarterbacks who have attended his camps and have gone on to play college football. He helped to develop one of the most successful passing attacks in the State of Michigan. Coach Copacia's quarterbacks combined to throw for over 47,000 yards and 394 touchdowns during his last 24 seasons as a high school football coach. During that time period, he coached 16 All-County quarterbacks at both Eisenhower and Ford ll High School in the State of Michigan.
Coach Copacia also has the unique distinction of having seven of his own high school quarterbacks earn 1st Team All-State honors in Michigan since 1988. Since 1988 Eisenhower had qualified for the state playoffs 10 consecutive times, 17 times total, including six semi-final and four state championship appearances ('99, '00, '01, '03). Fourteen of Coach Copacia’s high school quarterbacks have competed at the collegiate level since 1988.
Terry Copacia's Teaching Philosophy
"No Promises" Just Learning how to be a Better Quarterback, a more Confident Leader, and a Better Person.
No, the All-State Quarterback School is not a camp where only the best quarterbacks are recruited and come together. This is not a camp where national exposure is a priority nor is its focus securing college scholarships. This camp makes no promises except to make its participants better quarterbacks and better young men!
The goal of founder Terry Copacia's All-State Quarterback school is to teach the fundamentals of successful quarterbacking, including proper footwork mechanics, throwing motion and effective leadership skills.
Ultimately Copacia stresses hard work for his camp's participants to ensure them a successful final year in high school. "At the conclusion of every camp in the summer, I end the camp trying to instill in each and every quarterback the goal of having a great senior year. Most high school athletes make their best friends and learn many valuable lessons about life in their senior year." These goals, Copacia believes, are both realistic and useful.
Most attendees of his camps are not blue chip athletes. "I coach kids who don't always have the fastest feet. I coach kids who are trying to throw a consistent spiral and throw with more power. I coach kids who aspire to achieve a starting position on their junior or senior high football teams. These are the kind of kids I want — kids with determination."
Copacia conducts group and private training sessions throughout the year. "I regularly have parents who drive or fly hundreds of miles for private tutoring." Copacia has worked with quarterbacks from many regions of the country. "I find that most quarterbacks don't know what to practice; they do not have a plan. They erroneously think that playing catch with someone will make them better. I provide them with practice routines, including both footwork drills and throwing drills." "They leave with a plan for success."
Copacia provides routines and suggestions that can be beneficial, quarterbacks should consult their coaches before embarking on a new routine. "I make it clear that the number one person in a quarterback's athletic life is his coach - not me. I just want participants to leave the session with a practice routine, an improved throwing motion and a better feeling about themselves both on and off the football field."
No promises, just learning how to be a better quarterback, a more confident leader, and a better person.
